One of my favorite games to play with toddlers and preschoolers is Float or Sink. Its as simple as filling a bathtub, a kiddie pool, or a plastic bin, with water and dropping various object into asking “do you think this will sink or float?!”. Kids love to make their guess and see if they are right. Its not only a good way to kill time on a long afternoon, but it is a great learning activity! Integrating science into a child’s playtime is so important, and not as difficult as it may seem. Float or Sink is the perfect example.
Have a microwave? Try making soap clouds! All you need is a bar of ivory soap
Similar to Float or Sink, is Will It Melt. Grab a muffin tin from the kitchen and have the kids choose items from around the that they believe might melt. Take the tin filled with the kid approved items and set it in the sun. Smile as your little buddies watch intently waiting to see if that crayon or that lego will melt first.
If you are up for getting a bit messy, the Watermelon Volcano is a must try! It has the wow factor to thrill even the hardest to please 10 year old.
